That is the first time I've heard about the EFF.org group. After looking at their content, I ordered one of the pocket sized Bill of Rights cards. Thanks for the T-shirt tip Amy!

Ditto on all accounts. The other thing I find interesting in regards to the "generational gap" and this is a personal observation at my school, it that I find that even the young teachers who are just entering the education system are not jumping at the bit to integrate technology. So I have to wonder, at what point should education begin to make the changes? Obviously, our younger generation is using more technology throughout their college years, but are they actually being taught how to think out of the box and take the "old school" technique/lesson to the next level?

Although I didn't come right out and say it as you did, I was certainly thinking along the same lines as you with regards to teachers' techno-phobia. I do hate to generalize, but as you said, the age thing does seem to be noticeable in this regard. Why change if I've already been doing it this way and it seems to be working fine? So, not just showing teachers with that mindset how they can teach an old lesson in a new way, but also helping them to realize that the change needn't be so dramatic. A slightly-tweaked medium, not an entirely new paradigm. Or something like that. ;-)

I do also agree with how you say that technology can be used by teachers to get organized and manage their time more effectively, although I question whether that is *instructional* technology per se. Technology, yes -- but more for personal improvement than instructional enhancement.

Finally, I think something that is really great in your entry is the notion of "integrating technology into unexpected lessons." Not just doing the obvious, but thinking outside the box instead to potentially make a dramatic step in taking instruction to the next level. At least one would hope to aspire to that sort of thing.

See you in class tomorrow! :-)
